Mountainous Terrain

03.03.2011

Submission:

We do not generally increase the MOC when asessing the PANS OPS visual manoeuvring (circling) area in mountainous terrain areas. I am interested to know if other countries apply mountainous terrain in the circling area.

I am also interested to know if others have guidelines for applying anything less than a 100% MOC increase for final approaches, missed approaches, or departures in mountainous terrain areas?

I know that the Swiss use a sliding scale for mountainous terrain

Below 1500m = MOC According to DOC 8168/611
At or above 1’500m and below 3’050m = The MOC shall be multiplied by a factor of 1.5
At or above 3’050m  = The MOC shall be multiplied by a factor of 2
